Meet the Mergies: Gabby Schwartz

Jon Gitlin
Senior Content Marketing Manager
@Merge

Welcome to another edition of Meet the Mergies, a content series that spotlights the wonderful humans who work at Merge.

Today’s edition features Gabby Schwartz, a software engineer who works out of our New York City office.

You can read on to learn more about why Gabby joined Merge, what she works on day-to-day, why she likes working here, and more!

1. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love going out and exploring the world, especially with friends and family—whether it’s listening to live music, going on a long walk or hike outside, or finding a new coffee shop to enjoy the book I’m reading. I’m definitely a foodie as well. I love trying all the new restaurants in NYC—especially the ones with pasta on the menu.

2. Where were you working prior to Merge?

I worked at Slack for over 3 years as a software engineer on the activation team. I helped optimize their login flows and ensured that new users were set up for success on the platform.

3. What attracted you to Merge?

I was definitely pulled in by the culture of the engineering team. After talking with folks during the interview process and listening to their experience, I quickly realized that everyone was super collaborative. They’re open to hearing out any and all opinions and are always willing to help one another out. Everyone truly is just so excited to work together and talk through hard problems in person!

I was also excited to work in an environment where I could quickly own projects and contribute to the product roadmap from the get-go.

Finally, I was excited to work at a place where everyone is so committed to customers and building a best-in-class product!

4. What does your typical day at Merge look like?

My team supports the seamless flow of our end users’ data from third party systems to our customers' hands right when they need it. This involves working with our platform engineers on solving the toughest of integration problems, as well as a lot of coding, spec writing, product planning, and bug squashing!

5. What do you like most about working at Merge?

I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but it truly is so fun to work with my peers and solve problems together in person. Everyone is so smart, humble, and motivated to bring new ideas to tackle problems.

I also truly look forward to coming into the office everyday just to get to work with folks across every department (and only occasionally goof off!). And after work, my fellow Mergies are always down for random adventures in NYC!

6. What keeps you excited about working here?

When it comes to integrations, there are endless possibilities and always new problems to solve. This can be frustrating at times, but it definitely keeps us on our toes as no problem ever gets old or repetitive.

Also, there are so many creative ways you can use our product, so it’s fun and really rewarding to see how customers end up using Merge.

Last but not least, working with our amazing team makes everything all the more memorable and exciting!

“It was the same process, go talk to their team, figure out their API. It was taking a lot of time. And then before we knew it, there was a laundry list of HR integrations being requested for our prospects and customers.”
