IT asset management
It would take us several weeks to set up each integration through our embedded iPaaS. With Merge, we can essentially flip a switch to add any HRIS integration our customers need.
Firstbase, which enables IT teams to procure, deliver, and manage assets for employees, used a popular embedded iPaaS solution to build and manage HRIS integrations that help automate user onboarding and offboarding.
While the value of these integrations was clear, the tool used to add and maintain them wasn’t.
According to Shubham Bansal, the VP of Engineering at Firstbase:
After learning about Merge’s unified API approach to integrations, they knew they found their long-term integration partner.
“Merge could focus on the integrations our prospects and customers needed, and we could finally focus on building Firstbase,” explains Shubham.
After a few days spent building to Merge’s Unified API, Firstbase was able to add dozens of HRIS integrations, which include Workday, BambooHR, Namely, and HiBob.

Here’s how their HRIS integrations work:
1. A logged in user would click on the Integrations tab, select Available Integrations and then select the specific integration they’re interested in.

2. This prompts Merge Link, a UI component that can be embedded into your app, to appear. The user can go on to authenticate the integration within Merge Link by following a few simple steps.

3. Once the integration is authenticated successfully, a wide range of employee data is synced with Firstbase daily. This includes employees’ first and last names, email addresses, start and termination dates, job titles, departments, and home addresses.

This enables a few workflows in Firstbase:
Note: Firstbase’s customers can configure the specific equipment each department and/or role needs in order to trigger the right equipment deliveries for every new hire.
Since migrating their integrations from the embedded iPaaS solution over to Merge, Firstbase has been able to add dozens of additional integrations quickly.
Shubham explains why:
“It would take us several weeks to set up each integration through our embedded iPaaS. With Merge, we can essentially flip a switch to add any HRIS integration our customers need.”
Lastly, their team has found Merge’s Field Mapping feature invaluable for syncing custom data.
“Our customers’ HRIS systems are often highly customized, as they can vary based on their unique business processes, products, and stage of growth. Field Mapping helps us address our customers’ unique data integration requirements at scale by letting us access and sync any custom data,” explains Shubham.
We look forward to helping Firstbase scale their integration offerings even further in the years ahead.
